Operative Laparoscopy
Operative Laparoscopy is a type of minimally invasive surgery utilizing small incisions (usually 0.5-1.5 cm) in the abdomen or pelvis instead of the traditional large incision used for certain procedures. A thin scope connected to a camera & light is inserted through the abdomen and allows the doctor to fully survey the pelvis for diagnosis of any gynecological abnormalities or treatment of any conditions. These include ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, and ectopic pregnancy. Most hysterectomies can also be performed using this minimally invasive technique. Some of the advantages of minimally invasive surgery include less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, less postoperative pain, and a quicker recovery time. |
