Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial ablation is a procedure used to ablate or destroy the endometrial lining of a uterus. An instrument is inserted through the cervix into the uterine cavity to apply heat to thermally damage the uterine lining. The burning can be from the heated saline inside a ThermaChoice® balloon or from the mesh with the Novasure® system. This is usually performed on an outpatient basis under sedation administered by an Anesthesiology doctor. This technique is most often employed for women who suffer from excessive or prolonged bleeding during their menstrual cycles but cannot or do not wish to undergo a hysterectomy. As high as 90% of women will have reduced menstrual bleeding after this procedure and many may no longer have a menses at all. |
