Diagnostic Hysteroscopy
Diagnostic hysteroscopy is the inspection of the uterine cavity by endoscopy, using a thin scope connected to a camera to visualize the inside of the uterus. This allows for the diagnosis of any uterine pathology such as polyps or fibroids, and endometrial sampling can also be obtained for further pathological investigation, especially in those patients with a history of abnormal vaginal bleeding or postmenopausal bleeding. This procedure can be done in the office setting or in the hospital under deep sedation. Polyps and fibroids can be removed via hysteroscopy as a definitive form of treatment. |
